Does anyone else know whether MOE stipulates a minimum educational qualification?

Oh dear, quoting myself. Still...

I emailed MOE and enquired. They stipulate a requisite educational qualification and work experience, but would not specify a minimum. However, they ruled out someone who only has the PSLE but accepted 'O' levels as being suitable. Therefore, we may infer that 'O' level or equivalent is the minimum. Hope I am not misrepresenting their position.

Cheers
Martin

If I apply for the exemption now, and it is approved, can I still register my child for Primary school in July?

I recently emailed MOE for the application form and also asked Ms Tan about this. And here's her reply.

QN: If my exemption is approved, but for some reason, we decide to register him for public school, can we still apply for entry into Primary school in July this year? And what will happen to the CE exemption? Will it be revoke when we register our child for Primary school?

==================================
Hi Mrs Delci

We can email the application form to you.

You may still register child for admission to a mainstream primary
school after the exemption is obtained. However, it will be revoked
immediately when your child is regisered in a mainstream primary school. You will have to return the Certificate of Exemption to us.

Meanwhile, please confirm that your child is a Singapore Citizen and we
will send the application form to you via email.

Hi, I am overwhelmed when I started to work on the curriculum and syllabus details for MOE.

I have no idea where and how to start except that I know I would use sonlight curriculum plus some maths, Chinese and science text books from Popular Bookshop.
Referring to subject syllabuses on the MOE website is also not very helpful.

How much details would MOE need? (can I provide one page summary for one yr?)

Can someone who has done it provide me with some tips please?

Thanks

Hi,

I can send you a copy of my proposed syllabus for my 7-year-old if you like. While I make reference to MOE's syllabus, I am not actually using it. A bit of this and a bit of that. PM me if I can help OK?

MOE do not seem to have a template or exemplars on what they expect, or do not wish to make such public. I know because I asked for them when I applied.

When I applied, I mostly submitted in bulleted outline form, so yes, you can provide a one page summary for one year.

I suspect, and hope, that MOE are more interested in your commitment rather than the excellence of your curricular planning. So take time to smell the coffee and relax...

Cheers
Martin

Hi, would you mind sending me a copy? We are overseas Singaporeans, returning home in July this year. We would like to homeschool our 7 year old boy and would definitely need some help/references with the curriculum.

Thanks in advance and I hope you wont mind me asking for a copy.

regards,
huifang

Hi Huifang and anyone else listening in. If you would like a copy of our application for exemption (done two years ago), please email me at angiefm@gmail.com and I will be most happy to share it with you.

When push comes to shove, ALL of us are doing the MOE syllabus. Because we have to prepare our children to take the PSLE! So there is absolutely nothing wrong about referencing it.

If you are doing Sonlight, honestly the MOE doesn't need to hear about it. They require that you tell them what you will be doing for the 4 examinable subjects (English, Mother Tongue, Maths, Science) and for National Education. IMHO, they don't need to know that we are doing history and geography or what version of the Bible we will be reading *grin*.

Happy Applying!

I want to include here the email address of MOE's Compulsory Education unit.

It would be easiest to contact them by email regarding your application or any homeschooling matters.
